Mila Kunis Attends Marine Corps Ball In North Carolina
First Published: November 19, 2011 8:20 PM EST Credit: Cpl. Johnny Merkley Caption Mila Kunis attends the Marine Corps Ball in Greenville, N.C. with Sgt. Scott MooreGREENIVLLE, N.C. -- Justin Timberlake kept his promise and so did his Friends with Benefits co-star, Mila Kunis. Mila accompanied Sgt. Scott Moore to the Marine Corps Ball on Friday night in Greenville, North Carolina, a spokesperson for the Marine Corps confirmed to Access Hollywood. Everything went well. It was a great experience for everybody, spokesperson Capt. Scott Sasser told Access. According to several local news reports in Greenville, the actress arrived into the Pitt-Greenville Airport around 2:30 PM local time on Friday and was quickly whisked to the Greenville Convention Center, the site of the ball. Local news station WNCT was able to capture a brief shot of Mila arriving to the venue before disappearing inside. No media were allowed inside the event, however Capt. Sasser did release two photos from inside, taken by a fellow Marine. CLICK HERE to view both photos! A rep for Mila had no additional comment when contacted by Access Hollywood. Back in July, Sgt. Moore asked Mila to be his date for the night via a YouTube proposal. Hey Mila. Its Sergeant Moore, but you can call me Scott, he said from a base in Afghanistan. I just wanted to take a moment out of my day to invite you to the Marine Corps Ball on November 18th in Greenville, North Carolina, with yours truly. So take a second, think about it and get back to me. Mila accepted the offer of the Marine, whose unit recently returned from a seven-month deployment to Afghanistan. The unit reportedly lost seven members during the tour of duty. Shortly after being invited to the Ball by Sgt. Moore, Milas Friends with Benefits leading man, Justin Timberlake, received his own YouTube invitation by Marine Cpl. Kelsey De Santis to attend another ball, which he attended last week. Following the event, Justin said it was one of the most moving evenings Ive ever had. His date, Cpl. De Santis, spoke to Access Hollywood about the big night and said her superstar date was a perfect gentleman. [I was surprised by] how genuine of a person he seems to be. He seems very selfless to me, so it was nice having him there. It was kind of like having one of our good friends at the table, she told Access Hollywood Lives Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Tuesday. He asked me a lot of questions about what I do and about me, which was really, really nice. Copyright 2011 by NBC Universal, Inc. All rights reserved. Robert Rodriguez on Taylor Lautner, Former 'Sharkboy': 'This Kid Was Just From Another Planet'
Three years before Taylor Lautner was cast as a young Jacob Black in the first 'Twilight' movie, director Robert Rodriguez plucked him from relative obscurity to star as the titular young superhero in his 2005 family film 'The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D.' It was Lautner's first shot at a leading role, but Rodriguez says he always knew it would not be the disciplined young actor's last. Considering Rodriguez is also responsible for giving stars like Antonio Banderas, Danny Trejo and Salma Hayek big breaks, the filmmaker knows how to scout talent. "He was the first Sharkboy we ever saw," Rodriguez told Moviefone, referring to the casting sessions he and his son/co-writer Racer sat in on to find the right young actor. "I turned the camera to my son after he left the room and asked, 'Do you think he's Sharkboy?' and he said 'Yes,' and we hadn't even seen any other actors. He was so convinced" Rodriguez added that although they went ahead and screened other boys, it was "just undeniable" that Lautner, then 12, was the one. "This kid was just from another planet. He was just so good, so physical, standing on one hand," he recalled, referring to Lautner's well-known martial-arts skills. "He was as close as we could get to a real kid who could be a sharkboy. We didn't have to do anything, just point the camera at him and let him run." It was so obvious, Rodriguez said, he just knew Lautner would find success in Hollywood. "If you had told me that day, 'Oh by the way in five or ten years this kid is going to be a huge star,' I would totally believe it." In fact, Lautner, now 19, was so disciplined during the three-month shoot in Rodriguez' Austin, Texas-based studio, that Rodriguez has since made it a rule (for his family movies) to always hire at least one kid with an extensive martial-arts background. "They are the leaders of the group, keep the other kids in line, and have so much discipline and focus they become good role models for the rest of the young cast," Rodriguez said. "He was so professional, even as a kid. He had the focus of an adult." Unlike some of the emo young actors who play tortured souls, Lautner has none of that starving actor insecurity about acting. "A lot of what gets you through Hollywood is confidence and overcoming fears, and Taylor has that, and he is just able to do everything." Sounds like Lautner should collaborate with the director who gave him his breakout role for one of Rodriguez more "grown-up" films. 'The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D' is now available on Blu-Ray DVD. our editor recommendsWarren Beatty Returning to Filmmaking With Paramount ProjectWarren Beatty to Be Honored By BAFTA LA Warren Beatty's planned movie about Howard Hughes is having as much trouble taking off as the Spruce Goose. According to insiders, the project has lost one of its main financiers as well as its award-winning casting director. PHOTOS: Warren Beatty, Annette Bening and More Golden Globe Power Couples Morgan Creek Productions, the independent outfit that had agreed to back the pic with New Regency when Paramount dropped it in September, has now parted ways with the project. Sources say New Regency, under the direction of Arnon Milchan and Brad Weston, was to split the risk with James G. Robinson's Morgan Creek, with each company taking a 45 percent stake in the project and producer/financier Steven Bing making up the difference. A source says the budget is currently in the $47 million range but the producers and potential distributor Fox, where New Regency is based, wanted it brought down to $42 million. Facing an impasse, Morgan Creek has pulled out. STORY: Michael Douglas, Warren Beatty, Meryl Streep Receive Lifetime Achievement Awards Meanwhile, sources say Beatty's hand-picked casting director Debra Zane also has left the project. Zane, one of the top names in the field, has worked on such movies as Get Shorty, American Beauty, Traffic and Dreamgirls. She was said to be looking at potential cast for the drama but left the project due to creative differences that are said to be unrelated to the financial issues. The Hughes pic is meant to be a comeback of sorts for Beatty, 74, who was last behind the camera with 1998's Bulworth and last starred in the 2001 film Town & Country. UPDATE: Reps for Bing and his Shangri-La banner have issued the following statement: New Regency and Steve Bing have always been Warren Beatty's partner in making the Howard Hughes film. The Zone: Film Review
Capping off his "Full Moon" trilogy of recent releases, micro-budget filmmaker Joe Swanberg's The Zone world opened up at AFI Fest with little attendant fanfare, concluding a film dialogue along with his stars and audience that began with Silver Bullets and Art History, which first demonstrated at Berlin taken. Given Swanberg's well-established recognition with indie-leaning festivals, The Zone which is Full Moon options is constantly on the to research the circuit as extended while he decides it's advantageous to make sure that they are in circulation. Expects to self-distribute on DVD through Factory 25 starting with fourth quarter 2011 incorporated inside a restricted edition subscription service rather than based on usual partner IFC Films will avoid the risk of a disappointing theatrical release. Settling again into familiar, tiresome introspective mode, Swanberg plays themselves just like a filmmaker pointing a trio of stars in the fraught relationship drama. Also showing are combined twenty-somethings Ray (Lawrence Michael Levine) and Sophia (Sophia Takal), who share a tatty Brooklyn apartment with Kate (Kate Lyn Sheil) they reference as "The Zone." Joe's no-budget film (a jerk to Pasolini's Teorema) of a customer (filmmaker Kentucker Audley) who seduces all the three people in fast and unconvincing succession is unraveling, rent by jealousies among the intimate castmembers and also the own self-doubts about his role just like a filmmaker. The best now formulaic nested narrative structure yields little stylistic flair -- unless of course obviously shooting a few moments around the mobile phone could be seen as imaginative -- with Swanberg based on rudimentary lighting, uninspired camerawork and rote editing, pointlessly undercutting the otherwise serviceable hi-def format. Throughout, the acting is naturalistic and unremarkable to the level of nearly contradicting the thought of performance. Despite their very own frequent self-absorption and offhand creative process, Swanberg has forged a unique mention of the his youthful, Whitened, college-educated peers, lots of whom face lives of progressively reduced anticipation in the films too just like real existence, facing a teetering economy and cratering marketplace. His direct depictions of youthful emotional turmoil, casual nudity and wary, semi-committed sexual intercourse can access a compelling authenticity handful of other contemporary filmmakers are actually capable of well explore or replicate. Although collaborators may sometimes feel psychologically defaced by is invasively inquisitive filmmaking style, Swanberg's readiness to freely critique their very own creative process on camera is certainly an infrequent approach that lots of filmmakers not have access to the nerve to test. The laid-back, low-fi productions made up of the whole Moon trilogy can happen almost deliberately provocative, however , represent the relaxing from the conversation that Swanberg remains getting with themselves and also the audience with the series as well as throughout lots of his career. Whether anybody aside from just a little circle of pals, fans and fans remains getting involved in the self-reflexive dialogue is questionable however. Just like a self-known to "art film" director, Swanberg has set the bar remarkably full of comparison for the assets and artistic vision he's been prepared to deploy within the films to date. In examining issues of art, closeness and desire, The Zone unveils that Swanberg appears less convinced than in the past that belongs to them effectiveness just like a filmmaker within the limitations in the mumblecore format. Venue: AFI Fest Production company: Swanberry Productions Cast: Sophia Takal, Lawrence Michael Levine, Kate Lyn Sheil, Kentucker Audley, Joe Swanberg, Adam Wingard, Dustin Guy Defa Director/film author/producer/editor: Joe Swanberg Company company directors of photography: Adam Wingard, Joe Swanberg, No Rating, 70 minutes AFI Fest

Digital growth forces re-think of old roles
Steven Poster at Variety's Film Technology Summit
'Arthur Christmas'As anybody who follows Variety's tech coverage knows, among the effects from the digital revolution may be the clouding of traditional job functions.Matte painting on glass is extinct matte artists are digital artists now. With digital set extensions and all sorts of-CG shots and moments, the visual effects realm overlaps with production design and cinematography. A number of what was once vfx has become made by colorists in digital intermediate. Editors at their Avids are now able to do effects that was once the province of f/x or opticals. Compositing, once an obscure f/x process, obtained care of to being as effective and inventive as editing or DI. Along with the latest advances in lightfield capture, even fundamental jobs like camera operator and concentrate puller will probably evolve, otherwise disappear. But as Steven Poster, prexy from the Intl. Cinematographers Guild noted Monday at Variety's Film Technology Summit, existing job game titles are enshrined in union contracts, work rules and finest practices hammered out on the century. And that is an issue, since the filmmaking procedure that created individuals definitions and rules is diminishing into history. Poster known as to have an industrywide consortium like the Digital Cinema Initiative to check out the on-set workflow and discover new, flexible definitions and rules."We have to create a flexible idea of exactly what the work will probably be within the next 3 years,Inch he told Variety offstage, "because it is going to change, and that we can't lock ourselves into something which is not likely to possess some versatility into it.InchThe DCI spec that Poster reported for example, under ten years old, has already been showing wear and tear. There is talk of the DCI 2. "I believe that each certain period of time you are going to need to do that since it is altering so quickly," Poster stated. He stated the pace of change has forced the ICG to constantly re-train its people, for the first time.Amongst the brand new challenges that demand new standards, he stated, is three dimensional exhibition. Poster stated he's lately talked about having a studio the thought of exhibition standards, since the three dimensional golden goose might be wiped out by dark, muddy projection. "If you will find no standards you are getting mother-and-pop theaters, you are getting small chains, and everybody has their very own standards, rather than everybody saying, 'Let's work toward this.'?"3D's fuzzy mathSpeaking of three dimensional, I've another rant on three dimensional exhibition. Since I Have cover three dimensional, I have gathered a number of multiple-use circular-polarized three dimensional glasses, that are upgrading versus. standard recyclable RealD glasses. My loved ones and that i used them in the preem of "Immortals" Monday evening and every one of us loved the three dimensional experience. The following evening we visited a screening of Sony's three dimensional "Arthur Christmas" at Off-shore Theaters' The Grove in L.A. The Grove uses the Xpand active glasses system. We have had a lot of bad encounters with three dimensional at multiplexes -- especially at theaters while using Xpand system -- that people habitually arrive early to obtain good seats and appearance the glasses for grime and damaged contacts. The contacts on our glasses were intact but filthy. After ten minutes of effort and spending the majority of a bottle of lens cleaner, one pair continued to be hopelessly smeared and gritty, and so i went to request for any different pair. The theater employees were unsurprised."Individuals greasy fingers in the butter," one stated. Inside a couple of moments, they found us a less greasy pair, washed it further, and that i could benefit from the movie. My question for galleries, marketers and participants: What part of your clients want to check their glasses the way in which I actually do? The number of finish up squinting at the nine-figure tentpole via a clever of butter and salt? Now allow me to say, my loved ones and that i loved "Arthur Christmas" and that we wound up without any complaints concerning the three dimensional. But being an observer of the profession, I believe it's insane for theaters to charge people reasonably limited then hands them dirty glasses.
